A Season of Premiers
nimbus announces its 2006-2007 season.
August 17, 2006
Minneapolis, MN (August 17, 2006) – nimbus, a local theatre group dedicated to producing thought-provoking, artistically challenging contemporary theatre, today formally announced its exciting 2006-2007 season, which will feature four works previously unseen by Twin Cities audiences. The season will begin and end with new adaptations of classic work, and feature a regional premiere of a Tony-Award winning play and a world premier of a new work by a local author in between. The season, as announced, is: You Burn Me September 8th - 24th Minneapolis Theatre Garage You Burn Me is a modern retelling of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, created by nimbus co-Artistic Director Josh Cragun and cast in an innovative workshop environment. Set in 20th century America, this is tale about love, through the eyes of two relationships: one ruined by jealousy and the other threatened by bigotry. A gripping story about the redeeming power of love and forgiveness. The Goat, or Sylvia November 3rd - 19th Minneapolis Theatre Garage Sylvia has it all...a lovely little place in the country, 3 adoring kids, and a new man who treats her right. There's only one problem... Edward Albee's Tony Award winning play asks us all to question why our values are so valuable. The breaking of one very big taboo asks us why we draw lines where we do. It takes the ideals of love, tolerance, and fidelity and throws them into the giant gray area of life. American Noise March 9th - 25th Intermedia Arts For over two hundred years the American Dream has served as a Siren Song for the disenfranchised of the world, or has it? Is this a country that is built upon a noble idea of Liberty and Justice for All, or are we all just rubes that have duped into believing in Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness? In his first full-length script, nimbus co-Artistic Director Cockroach explores all this and more in American Noise: The Savage Re-birth of the American Dream, a unique new work blending animation and live action theatre. Agamemnon June 8th - 24th Minneapolis Theatre Garage Troy has finally fallen. The heroes return home triumphantly, but the Queen has been waiting ten years to exact her vengeance. In Agamemnon, nimbus co-Artistic Director Liz Neerland presents a new adaptation of the Oresteia, Aeschylus' famous trilogy of murder, revenge, and fate. Presented in two parts over two seasons, Agamemnon is the first half of a bold retelling of this classic story. For more details on any of these productions, or for interviews with nimbus artistic staff, please contact nimbus co-Artistic Director Josh Cragun at 612-237-9810 or email@example.com. nimbus has been producing experimental, challenging and just plain odd theatre in the Twin Cities for over five years. In that time, we have entertained and baffled thousands of Twin Citians with an engaging mix of under-appreciated works by established playwrights, new plays by emerging playwrights and innovative company-created productions. We’re weird, we’re grassroots, we’re local and we’re making theatre like you’ve never seen before.
