Perilous Night Press Release

nimbus presents the World Premiere of "Perilous Night" by Lee Blessing.

August 21, 2013

Award winning Minnesota playwright Lee Blessing is collaborating with nimbus to present Perilous Night. Written in 2007 and never before produced, the play will premiere September 14, 2013 at the Nimbus Theater on Central Ave. in Northeast Minneapolis.

Perilous Night is a provocative commentary on race, the nature of history, and the relationships between the mighty and the powerless. The play centers around Harriet, a young mental patient, and her unexpected audience with Elizabeth III, a queen who claims to come from an unimaginable future - despite her deceptive appearance as a fellow patient. As Harriet unfolds her plight and sues for redress, dark secrets are uncovered involving Samuel and Carver, the night orderlies. As her Royal Highness remarks, “How bracing! We are exhilarated by the whirlwind of activity...”

The opportunity to work with playwright Blessing, who agreed to join rehearsals to fine tune his work, was a golden opportunity for nimbus and director Liz Neerland. The project “speaks to our focus on the collaborative creation of new work.” Being the first to present this work and collaborate first-hand with a nationally recognized figure like Blessing marks a milestone in the continuing development and prominence of nimbus.

Lee Blessing is a Minnesota playwright who has received regional and national acclaim. His most famous work to date, A Walk in the Woods, was nominated for both a Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize.
