nimbus presents A Very Electric Christmas

nimbus premieres its latest original work at the Crane Theater in Northeast Minneapolis.

Written by Josh Cragun and directed by Liz Neerland.

Opening December 2nd and performing through December 17th, 2023.

nimbus presents their second holiday movie spoof, A Very Electric Christmas, opening December 2nd at the Crane Theater in Northeast Minneapolis. Building on the success of last years’ Nimbus Presents: A Count Up to Christmas, they are returning to The Heartland to send up a genre we all love and love to hate at the same time.

Director Liz Neerland explained the origins of this year’s seasonal romp: “We had so much fun with last year’s production. Then we had an idea - what if one of the ‘commercials’ from that show became the actual show for this year?” nimbus’ holiday 2022 production contained fake “trailers” for other spoof-y holiday shows, just like your favorite holiday movies do. “So we took the title from one of the other fake movies from last year and that became our jumping off point for this year.”

Most of the same cast has returned, but they won’t be playing the same characters. This is a whole new show set in a wholly different small town in the Heartland, with a whole new set of challenges our characters must overcome in order to save Christmas.

Up and coming reporter Trae Bowers finally got the promotion he wanted and moved to the Big City, only to find his first work assignment sends him back to the small town he left long ago. Meanwhile, back in his hometown of Snowflake Falls, they’ve got their own problems amping up…a nosy inspector is threatening to discover the secret that keeps their Christmas Festival Light Spectacular shining so bright.

“Really, these movies are melodrama,” said co-Artistic Director and playwright Cragun. “It’s the same as soap operas or wrestling - they present an over-the-top version of a thing a lot of people think they want. We took it a step further, showing how absurd the whole genre is while having fun along the way.”

Will Trae rediscover love in his hometown? Will all Snowflake Falls’ secrets be revealed? Can Christmas be saved? Go see A Very Electric Christmas and find out for yourself!
