It’s about a wolf…
Since our origins in the 2001 Fringe Festival, we’ve brought 49 productions to life at stages across the Twin Cities. This April, we are bringing our 50th production to life. This world premiere devised work will be written by Co-Artistic Director Liz Neerland, who is co-creating the work along with director Josh Cragun and an all star cast of nimbus alums: Heidi Berg, Ernest Briggs, Nicole Goeden, Brian Hesser, Song Kim, and Laura Mason. Tapped to design the show are artists Ursula Bowden, Mitchel Frazier, Forrest Godfrey, Caitlin Hammel, Rubble&Ash, and Corinna Knepper Troth.
“We want to explore the wolf, and its place in human folklore,” said Neerland. “Wolves are ubiquitous in many culture’s story telling, but their role has evolved as we have evolved. Dogs were the first animals to be domesticated, and they’ve been with us for so long, they’ve become as much a part of our psyche as they are our families. But as humankind became more civilized, the wolves in our stories became more terrible. And our stories affected the real life wolf, nearly wiping them out. Now that we know more about them, we are realizing they are not the savage creatures we once feared. So, the question is: why?“
Inspired by a famous wolf in Northern Minnesota, the play will be a modern myth, about what we fear, and how that fear manifests itself in our lives. “Once we began looking at the stories of wolves in our culture, we began to realize we needed to tell a new story,” said Cragun. “This will be that story.”
#50 comes to The Crane Theater April 11-26. Opening night will be a special tribute to nimbus past and present. Mark your calendars now. Want a sneak preview? Check out our Eye Opener workshop of the work in progress Thursday, February 20.
